Beutiful pronunciation of the titles. I've taken newbies to Tristan and they've reacted well. In addition to the ones you named I can also suggest La Boheme Rigoletto Don Giovanni Marriage of Figaro Pagliacci Cavalleria Rusticana Wagner is actually easier than the other heavy Germans. He knew how to write tunes. Verdi and Puccini can't be beat for great melody, but Mozart is a wonderful experience for an overall balanced evening with great arias, ensemble set pieces and instrumental music. Plus, Mozart is funny. A good laugh is always nice. I hope you won't get too upset for me saying that I prefer Carmen with the recitatives cut and French dialog restored. The opera works better than way and goes by at a faster pace. It gets to be a long evening otherwise.

I was on my last year of my vocal degree when I completely mentally collapsed and the passed 7 years I’ve been trying to work with a psychiatrist to find out something that works for me but so far no luck. I hate that I feel I’m wasting away important years of my life to eventually have an opera career :/

When I was in first or second grade, we had to participate in this opera. I have very few memories of it. I was listening to another channel talking about the fairy tale “The Sandman” by Hoffman written in 1817. Funny enough, the video never mentions the name Hoffman that I noticed, but something caught my attention that made me find this video: in the short story The Sandman, the main character meets an artificial human named Olympia and is given a special spyglass that changes how he sees the artificial human and makes him mistake her for real. Ultimately, Olympia is destroyed and the main character is beaten over the head with the doll’s (specifically) broken body… Sound familiar?

I like them all in a different way. My favorite version of the opera in a 1951 film, amazing cinematography and actors including tenor Robert Rounseville as Hoffman, ballet dancers Robert Helpmann, Ludmila Tcherina, Moira Shearer and Leonid Massine. George Bizet didn't live to see Carmen take off. He passed away from a heart attack at age 38! To this day the arias Habenera and Toreador which has been featured in commericals and movies alike.

Carmen is Bizet's own End of the World (Ragnarok) Opera. he wrote lighter works including Peral Fishers, L'arlesienne suites, Symphony in C Mjaor, and Children's Game's (petite suite).

I really enjoyed your "presentation" in that you picked up some words spoken by "Fra Melitone", such as, "Dico che la porta e pesante e fa rumore." Very nice!! "Forza is one of Verdi's greatest and one of my VERY favorites. I call its' music, "miraculous". VIVA VERDI FOREVER!!!!

I think that the most important thing is not to go into any debt to become an opera singer. So, universities are out. Collect money to travel to audition instead. If the parents want to pay for a degree in music, ask them for a condo instead. If you say "well, I could be a professor" if it does not work out, then you do not have the passion to begin with.
